The Alliance Cup held its 3rd annual golf tournament October 27th – 29th at Jonathan’s Landing Golf Club, a private club in Jupiter, Fla. The tournament was played at The Fazio at Old Trail, an 18-hole course that has been described as one of Tom Fazio’s best designs and is considered the true championship course at Jonathan’s.
The Alliance Cup showcases a Ryder Cup-style competition between the American team, led by John Means, who was inducted into the Golf Coaches Association of America Hall of Fame in 2013, and the International team, guided by Patricia Meunier-Lebouc, a former LPGA Tour member, who coached the 2016 French Women’s Golf Olympic Team at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Golfers from different origins had a unique opportunity to play this enjoyable tournament at one of my favorite golf courses in the Palm Beach area, a hidden gem just west of Interstate 95.
Camaraderie and fun competition builds between the 2 teams in this 2-day event. The Ryder Cup format used during this competition is a HUGE success and I can only expect growth in the coming years. In fact, I talked to quite a few players and everyone agreed that the format and the event itself have been their best golf trip ever. Playing a Ryder Cup style format is just more fun because you are playing for yourself and also you are playing for a team.
“Anyone who has played on a team knows that having the pressure of letting down your team is much worse than just messing up your own score. Whether you are sinking a 5-foot bogie putt or draining a 60 foot gagger, it is just more fun when you are playing on a team,” commented Brian Foy during our first day of competition. Brian is the Vice President of H4 Distribution, organizer of the event.
