  • USGA and R&A ban anchored putters…. Does this ruling helps the game? Today the USGA and R&A, governing bodies of our sport, announced the adoption of Rule 14-1b of the Rules of Golf, which prohibits anchoring to the club to your body in making a stroke. The new Rule will take effect January 1, 2016. For some, including myself,  this decision is very controversial and it hurts our game more than it helps. Do we really need more rules? Long putters have won four of the last six major championships. Keegan Bradley won the 2011 PGA Championship, Webb Simpson won the 2012 U.S. Open, Ernie Els won the 2012 Open Championship and just weeks ago Adam Scott won the 2013...

It might be Matt Kuchar’s turn, perhaps as soon as next month in the U.S. Open at Merion. “I think the more comfortable you get winning tournaments, I’ve now got five wins, and I’d like to continue that going,” said the 34-year-old Kuchar, who is playing this week in the HP...

  • INSIDE THE ROPES – THE PLAYERS By Tom LaMarre The Sports Xchange Inside the Ropes – The Players – The debate about whether the Players Championship actually should be the Fifth Major has raged for years and obviously will be discussed at length this week at TPC Sawgrass, when it celebrates its 40th playing. Bubba Watson weighed in the subject last year when he withdrew before the tournament following a whirlwind month after his victory in one of the four  bona fide major championships, the Masters. Had it been as important as a major, he would have been at TPC Sawgrass, the flagship event of the PGA Tour. Lee Westwood, No. 1 player in the World Golf Rankings at the...

We were exited to see a counter-punch initiative aimed to challenge Taylormade’s Rocketbladez irons. Callaway’s award-winning R&D department set out to deliver measurable distance gains with these two new, aggressive irons. As soon as the box arrived at our offices I took an extended lunch break and headed to Plantation’s Preserve driving range. I got a chance to hit about 40 – 50 balls during my range session and shot after shot I was getting more and more impressed with these clubs. The clubs are soft and very forgiving and...

  • Great White Course, a desert paradise in the middle of Miami…. The Great White Course at Doral, a Greg Norman Signature Course, is a 7,171-yard, par-72 marvel situated in the heart of Miami just minutes away from MIA (Miami International Airport). The Great White Course is the only golf course of its kind in the Southeastern United States that utilizes coquina — crushed shells — as the primary design element on every hole. In designing the Great White, Norman blended strategically demanding fairways with hundreds of palm trees. He then laid out the course in a manner where water comes into play on 14 of the 18 holes, which makes for a challenging, but picturesque Great White Golf Course. Host...

Sergio Garcia, who tied for eighth at Augusta, remains the poster boy. Garcia, whose signature moment still is chasing Tiger Woods all the way to the finish of the 1999 PGA Championship at Medinah, often seems farther from major glory than he was as a precocious 19-year-old. “We all have a chance of winning a major,” said Garcia, who is in the field this week at the Wells Fargo Championship. “I’ve had a couple.
