Cobra AMP Cell Pro Driver featuring MyFly Technology…

The Cobra AMP Cell Pro Driver line became available to the general public last February 8th and it has been an instant success amongst Cobra fans.  The club brings modern lines, great looks (available in several colors) and is packed with tons of techno advances to compete against the big dogs of Callaway, Taylormade, Ping and Nike Golf. The Cobra AMP Cell Pro Driver features Cobra’s new MyFly technology, allowing golfers to select from six different loft (trajectory settings) for optimum performance and distance based on a golfer’s swing and speed, as well as the weather and course conditions.Cobra AMP Cell Pro Driver

I don’t really know if its popularity is because of their current use amongst Cobra’s PGA Tour staffers or is it because how awesome it looks (definitely a head turner at any driving range); but I have seen an increasingly number of both, the more forgiving model AMP Driver and the Pro version all over the place here in Fort Lauderdale and Miami as well. Needless to say they are here and we are about to find out why is the go to club for Ricky Fowler, Jesper Parnevik and Johan Edfors.Cobra AMP Cell Pro Driver

The Review

Today we set up camp at Woodmont Country Club here in Tamarac, FL. Weather conditions are just perfect with sunny skies, low humidity and temperatures in the low 70’s. The first part of our review will be done here at the driving range using our launch monitor, the second part will be performed playing the difficult back 9 holes of the Cypress course at Woodmont CC. People who read my reviews will tell you that I am a 95% purist when it comes to golf equipment… flashy colors and gizmos will never win my heart; my interest is always performance and feel.cobrapuma_jesper

Cobra offers the regular AMP Cell driver in a choice of four different colors (silver, red, blue and orange) and the AMP Cell Pro driver in a choice of 0nly 2 colors, silver and orange. Our testing unit is an elegant silver color fitted with the Mitsubishi Rayon Kurokage 60 X shaft. The sole of the club features the same color coordination as the crown next to the cell band . The AMP Cell Pro Driver can be adjusted to the following lofts with a simple wrench 7.5°, 8.5°, 8.5° Fade, 9.5°, 9.5° Fade and 10.5°.Cobra AMP Cell Pro Driver

With six Tour trajectories Cobra AMP CELL Pro Driver is definitely a players club. After a few adjustments with the wrench I was able to find my optimum launch angle at 8.5* degrees and set at a neutral position; the club feels light in my hands and the Kurokage shaft does its work generating some incredible numbers out of our monitor. The ability to adjust your loft to maximize distance, manage trajectory for different weather and ground conditions, and dial in the club to match your game with MyFly Technology is great. SmartPad Technology delivers a square face at address regardless of loft setting.Cobra AMP Cell Pro Driver

During the real test the driver performed above our expectations. I was able to work the ball right to left and left to right with ease. The driver makes a soft sound at impact but it sure delivers a great punch. The Cobra AMP Cell Pro Driver can be tweaked to fit a big percentage of golfers, however; the smaller head size (440 cc) is only recommended for the better player handicaps 5 or below. Cobra golf also makes a regular size 460 cc head that is more suitable and more forgiving for the average player. Congratulations to Cobra Golf on a great product.
