PGA Tour in Spanish… A Cadillac Championship initiative

PGA Tour in Spanish is just around the corner. Golf is currently facing one of its biggest worldwide expansions to date and with it a huge economic boost from emerging markets.  Last week we witnessed fourteen year-old Chinese golf sensation Tianlang Guan made history by becoming the youngest player to make the cut during a major championship (77th Masters Tournament in Augusta). Yes, golf is rapidly growing in both Asian and Latin American markets and the PGA Tour is already testing and making the necessary adjustments to keep up with new market demands. One of these adjustments was launched right here at home during last month’s Cadillac Championships at Doral, a Live Spanish radio feed catering the needs of thousands Latin American and local Hispanic fans who attended the 4-day event.PGA Tour in Spanish

The 18th Hole – WGC Cadillac Championships

As a Latino fan it was great to listen up to the minute player information, player location and play-by-play all in all including “salsa and merengue” intros and comments. Indeed, this was the first time in the history of the PGA Tour that such feat was accomplished. The Spanish feed informed the audience the whereabouts (hole locations) of most, if not all favorite players, celebrity and player interviews including none other Real Estate Mogul and Doral Resort and Spa Owner Mr. Donald Trump

Working together with professionals like Fernando Solorzano, Publisher South Florida Golf Magazine and Jaime Colon and his team XM Sirius Radio PGA Tour Radio, we embarked in the daunting task to produce a high quality, uninterrupted radio feed for the audience attending the Cadillac Championship. With my personal experience (24 years as a Radio Producer), in one of the most successful morning shows in all of south Florida, I was able to interact and help bring this new endeavor to life in a relative short period of time.PGA Tour in Spanish

Seven days of events in which we interviewed many tournament sponsors, celebrities and players including Louis Oosthuizen, Dustin Rose, Nick Price, Nick Watney, Francesco Molinari, Rory, Jim Furyk, Ricky Fowler, Ryan Moore, and many more players. It was great for the audience and a step forward for the PGA Tour.PGA Tour in Spanish

The PGA is in the process of considering incorporating Spanish feed in more events. In my opinion, there are at least seventeen more events that the patrons would benefit from our information, comments and plain good analysis, all in Spanish. These events will include: the (4) World Golf Championships, all (4) majors, the California swing, Phoenix and Scottsdale (all Spanish strong markets) My sincere congratulations to Cadillac Championship Tournament Director Eddie Carbone and the PGA Tour  for supporting and promoting this great idea.
