Phil Michelson is ready to unleash Callaway’s Phrankenwood…
Callaway Golf newest weapon is here, the Phrankenwood. Most of us recalled back in 2006 Phil Michelson won the Masters by having a secret weapon inside his bag, actually 2 secret weapons, one driver that could fade and another that could draw the ball. This week at the Masters, exactly seven lucky years later, Mickelson is bringing another bold experiment to Augusta, replacing his driver altogether with a special club made by Callaway and marketed as the “X Hot Phrankenwood.”
The official name of the new club is X Hot Phrankenwood. It has 12 degrees of loft and is similar to Callaway’s 13-degree X Hot 3Deep 3-wood, already in use by Mickelson. If Mickelson decides to play Phrankenwood, it is speculated he will keep the 3Deep 3-wood in his bag and remove the 9.5-degree Razr Fit Xtreme driver. Wow!
“This is my driver,” Mickelson announced Tuesday at Augusta National, “It just looks like a 3-wood. It’s a 3-wood technology. It’s a larger 3-wood, but it’s got a driver shaft in it, and it’s hot like our 3-wood.” You heard me say it’s my driver, right? I mean, I don’t know if I’m getting this clear. It’s a driver, but it just looks like a 3-wood, because our drivers are so big now. But this one is smaller, because it’s an enhanced 3-wood.
