We had our first look at the new Ping G25 during December’s World Challenge. Ping staff players Hunter Mahan and Bubba Watson both included the G25 driver and fairway woods (Mahan and Watson) and a new Scottsdale TR putter (Mahan). Mahan was hitting a G25 Driver (9.5 degrees) as well as a 15-degree G25 fairway wood. The G25 driver’s performance-engineered adjustable hosel is optimized by using a lightweight titanium screw and aluminum hosel sleeve.
The design maintains the same outer diameter and mass as PING’s traditional fixed hosels. This provides benefits of adjustability without sacrificing performance. The deeper profile helps position the Center of Gravity lower and farther back that any other PING driver yet. The thinner crown sections in the clubhead allow re-distribution to further optimize the CG position. Built with a charcoal, non-glare matte finish (just like the I20) for a clean, sleek look.
Structural reinforcements in the crown, sole and skirt lend support and provide a solid feel and sound.
The ability to fine-tune trajectory makes it easy to optimize launch angle and spin rate for maximizing distance. Using a PING torque wrench, you can add or subtract 1/2 degree of loft to the 8.5°, 9.5°, 10.5° and 12° degree heads.
