RAZR Fit Xtreme driver was in Phil’s bag during his victory at the Waste Management Phoenix Open
Callaway’s RAZR Fit Xtreme driver became available to the general public last February and it is the direct successor of the highly regarded RAZR Fit driver. Needless to say the RAZR Fit Xtreme driver has been an instant success amongst Callaway Golf fans. The club brings a combination of classic looks and modern lines, it sits squared at address and is packed with tons of techno advances to compete against the big dogs of Taylormade, Ping and Nike Golf. According to Callaway Golf, the RAZR Fit Xtreme driver features a combination of extreme distance and extreme adjustability.Optifit Technology
State of the art OptiFit Hosel adjusts the face angle to an Open, Square, or Closed position at address to dial in the settings you want for improved accuracy and trajectory. The OptiFit Weights (13 grams and 1 gram) also shift the clubhead’s center of gravity to help you play a Draw or Neutral ball flight off the tee.Forged Composite and Speed Frame Face
RAZR Fit Xtreme driver has the lightest forged composite crown in Callaway’s history. A light crown helps lower the CG for greater distance. The Forged Composite material in the crown is lighter and stronger than titanium, allowing more stability and improved forgiveness. Callaway also ads a Speed Frame Face that creates incredibly fast ball speeds all across the face for longer, more consistent distance. This technology helps optimize the CG, offers more forgiveness, and is designed to provide more consistent sidespin for accurate drives. The Review
- Callaway RAZR Fit Xtreme 9.5*
- Optifit hosel set at Open
- Aldila Trinity 65G Shaft (Stiff)
Jamie West, PGA Professional at Diplomat Golf and Country Club in Hallandale Beach was kind enough to let us used the club’s driving range and play a round testing our new driver. Being a traditionalist, I loved how the driver looked at set up, no colors, lines or even crown graphics. Knowing my swing speed, I was a little concerned with the stiffness of the shaft so I brought a an old Aldila Proto by You 65X shaft outfitted for a Callaway RAZR Fit. After hitting around 30 – 40 balls I did not feel the need of exchanging shafts, the Aldila Trinity shaft that is available for this club is responsive enough at swing speeds of 104 mph. Passed that point and we started to notice a little pull-draw to our lefts and the dispersion from our launch monitor would also increase.
Out of the numbers we got from our launch monitor there is one that stands out the most; at 2,115 rpm’s the Callaway RAZR Fit Xtreme was our lowest recorded rpm’s this year and it has to be one of the longest drivers we have tested. During our session in the driving range we faced a 15 – 20 m.p.h. head wind that made it impossible to gauge the real distance of the driver but averaging 240 – 245 yards into the wind was very special. I will say that I was extremely impressed with the spin numbers I was seeing. Keep in mind that spin numbers rely on many factors, from your swing to the driver’s shaft, so your results may vary. At 440 cc the club feels really light, compact and smooth and the sound at impact is muffed, a great combination for discerning players. The Aldila Trinity shaft 65 gram feels a bit stiffer than a regular stiff shaft. It “combines Aldila’s three patented design technologies (RIP, S-Core, Micro Laminate) into a single shaft design. According to Callaway R&D, they characterize it as mid-spin and mid-launch shaft. A big difference between this shaft and the one previously used in RAZR Fit drivers is the stiff flex has a lower torque and higher stiffness.
We were very impressed by the overall performance of the driver during our test. The Optifit hosel help players tune-in their ball flight but proper fitting is a must before you buy this driver. Players must get the right loft as you will not be able to adjust it later. Our congratulations to Callaway Golf as they have been able to improve their RAZR Fit driver in terms of aesthetics and performance. The RAZR Fit Xtreme is already in the bag of many PGA Tour players… what are you waiting for! For more info please contact www.callawaygolf.com
