The Scotty Cameron Select tradition continues…

Scotty Cameron Select line of putters have developed a worldwide reputation amongst golfers.  After all, they are rich in tradition and have won countless PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, European Tour events. Scotty Cameron putters set the bar real high in terms of craftsmanship, quality and aesthetics.  But I always said, a great-looking golf putter will definitely turn some heads and win you a couple of “oohs” and “aah” from your friends but at the end of the day a putter needs to perform to stay in the bag. scotty cameron select 1

It just happens that golf is one of those spectator sports where performance matters more than looks and therefore, carrying an impressive range of clubs is not enough to win glory. After all, what good is a putter that fails miserably at guiding the golf ball into the cup? Therefore, it is important to choose your golf arsenal wisely and carefully as it can make all the difference between birdie and a bogey. A putter is never about power like drivers or the accuracy in case of  irons, putters are a breed of their own. Scotty Cameron Select Newport 2 is a great performing putter that happens to look really good!  scotty cameron select

We tested a great looking Scotty Cameron Select Newport 2 at our nearby Plantation Preserve putting green.  The way the ball comes of the Select Newport 2, I must say, is closer to a solid hit, you feel the ball take off  but it wasn’t a harsh hit… it was just a nice solid hit as compared to the putter I currently use. The head feels a little heavier than previews Newport models but the balance is perfect. The extra weight gave me instant confidence specially in short putts (inside 4′).  scotty cameron select

I grew up playing with several different putters shapes; for years, I trusted the forgiveness of mallet style putters but as of late I have developed a taste for the feel of a great, solid putter. I love the set up I get from this putter, sleek and low-slung with mechanical lines that appeal to the putting surgeon, great aiming angles and the black color is a great contrast to the traditional shinny silver looks. After just 20 minutes playing around with the Scotty Cameron Select Newport 2 I was draining back-to-back the always difficult 5′ to 7′ footers. Obviously, great balance, top of the line craftsmanship and great looks do come with a hefty price tag, I feel is a small investment when you will be using this tool twice as many times per round as you will use your $400 driver. Yes! do the math, you can only use your driver “once” in 14th holes but you get to use and enjoy your putter for at least 28 strokes… maybe more per round.
