This week in Golf -WGC-Bridgestone Invitational

PGA TOUR: World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational on the South Course at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, Thursday through Sunday.
TV: Thursday and Friday, 2-6 p.m. EDT, on the Golf Channel; Saturday and Sunday, 2-6 p.m. EDT, on CBS. LAST YEAR: Keegan Bradley claimed his third victory on the PGA Tour by sinking a 16-foot putt for par on the final hole to win by one stroke over Jim Furyk and Steve Stricker. Bradley closed with a bogey-free 6-under-par 64 and wound up as the winner when Furyk, who held a one-stroke lead on the 18th tee, needed four strokes to reach the green and missed a five-foot putt for bogey that would have forced a playoff. Furyk, who led most of the way after opening with a 63, birdied the first three holes in the final round but played the rest of the way in 2-over and finished with a 69. Stricker also closed with a 64, including birdies on each of the last three holes, but fell one stroke short of a playoff.

This week in Golf - WGC Bridgestone Invitational

CHAMPIONS TOUR: 3M Championship at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minn., Friday through Sunday.
TV: Thursday, 12:30-2 p.m. EDT; Saturday and Sunday, 4-6 p.m. EDT, on the Golf Channel all four days. LAST YEAR: Bernhard Langer came from six strokes behind in the final round by shooting a bogey-free 10-under-par 62 to claim a two-stroke victory over David Peoples. Langer, who earned his 16th victory on the Champions Tour and ended a 24-tournament drought since winning the 2011 Ace Group Classic, was tied for the lead through with Peoples through 15 holes in the final round. Peoples, who was seeking his first victory on the Champions Tour after winning twice on the PGA Tour, had taken the 54-hole lead with a 62 on Saturday, but fell behind Langer with bogeys on the 16th and 17th holes in the final round and closed with a 70.

LPGA TOUR: Ricoh Women’s British Open on the Old Course at St. Andrews Links in St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland, Thursday through Sunday.
TV: Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m.-noon; Saturday and 10 a.m.-1 p.m., on ESPN2 all four days. LAST YEAR: Jiyai Shin of South Korea claimed her second career major title with scores of 71-73 in a 36-hole Sunday marathon to win by a tournament record nine strokes over Inbee Park, also of South Korea, at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, Cheshire, England. Shin, who also captured the 2008 Women’s British Open at Sunningdale, was the only player to finish the tournament under par at Hoylake. Coming off a nine-hole playoff victory over Paula Creamer in the Kingsmill Championship in her previous outing, Shin won for the sixth time in her LPGA Tour career. She took control of the tournament by posting an 8-under-par 64 in the second round, before Saturday’s scheduled third round was postponed by extremely windy and rainy conditions, forcing a 36-hole finish on Sunday.
